GUADALCANAL: Marines land on Guadalcanal in the first of the amphibious assaults against Japanese-held positions in the pacific.

Guadalcanal Island...

Guadalcanal is an island in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.  Guadalcanal is the largest island of the independent state of the Solomon Islands. It has an area of 2060 sq. miles. The volcanic Kavo Mountains located on Guadalcanal, reach a maximum height of 2440 m (8005 ft) above sea level, extend the length of Guadalcanal, which is largely forested. The major town is Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands.

"Your story brought tears to my eyes.  The respect I hold for veterans of WW2 is without bounds. They saved the world!" ...Jeff, Oakland, Illinois

"Marines Assault Guadalcanal..."

On August 7, 1942  the U.S. First Marine Division landed on Guadalcanal in the first of the amphibious assaults against Japanese-held positions in the Pacific. The Marines captured and defended the airfield on the island of Guadalcanal in the face of bitter ground, sea, and air attacks by the Japanese. Fighting continued in the jungles of Guadalcanal until February 9, 1943, when the U.S. Army and Marine Forces secured Guadalcanal against Japanese resistance. Continual naval engagements between the Japanese and Americans were fought in the waters off Guadalcanal.

"Very moving account of one mans feelings and thoughts in a sea of turmoil. Thank you for sharing this with me, and showing me why I need to appreciate freedom that bit more..." Duncan Lavery, Manchester England

"Longest Battle..."

The Battle for Guadalcanal was the longest of the World War II battles fought in the Pacific. American and Japanese forces clashed repeatedly for a period of six months in a fight to the death on Guadalcanal.

"What a wonderful site! Thank you for presenting such a first class, meaningful, attractive presentation to the WWW. It's not often that I can visit a site and be emotionally moved by it. Thanks again! Semper Fi ! ..." Dave Wojta, Oak Park,MI

"Guadalcanal Journal..."

"Guadalcanal Journal" is the personal account of this bloody six month battle. Written by a 21-year-old Marine during the battle, "Guadalcanal Journal" has it all....

"Thanks so much for this great site. I was just trying to find facts about guadalcanal, but this gave me so much more. I now have just a little hint on what it must have felt like to be there, not just Guadalcanal, but in WWII. Well anyway, thanks. You really did a great job! ...."  Heather, Minnesota

"A wonderful and moving tribute to your father and the USMC. Semper Fi!" ...Roger Gleason, Fort Worth, Texas

Well, I could go on and on with the praises we have received about "Guadalcanal Journal."  But, why don't you read it for yourself!

Thanks,
Jim
